Handmade ceramic vase. Hand built slab pottery technique, using terracotta clay. The vessel is finished with two types of terra sigillata and black underglaze. No glaze is coated on the surface of the vessel thus leaving the natural terra sig touch and appearance. The interior of the vessel is coated with clear glaze which makes the vessel waterproof.
Terra sigillata is an ultrarefined clay slip that can give a soft sheen when applied to bone-dry wares and, if polished or burnished while still damp, gives a high gloss. The ancient Greeks and Romans used this technique in lieu of glaze.
